Snoring & sleep

Snoring: understand the cause before choosing treatment

Snoring can disturb sleep, but the right next step depends on its cause. A quieter night and treatment for sleep apnea are not the same thing.

Recognize signs that need evaluation

Loud snoring with witnessed breathing pauses, gasping or significant daytime sleepiness should be discussed with a healthcare professional. A sleep evaluation may be needed. You cannot rule out sleep apnea just because a person does not recall waking up.

Match treatment to the diagnosis

Sleep apnea may need treatments such as positive airway pressure or a prescribed oral device, depending on the medical assessment. Do not replace an existing treatment simply because a snoring product sounds more convenient.

Ask about Solea Sleep appropriately

Hall Dental offers assessment for Solea Sleep for suitable snoring concerns. It is not presented as a treatment for obstructive sleep apnea. We discuss the concern and whether medical evaluation or another pathway is needed before recommending care.

Bring useful information

Tell us what you or your partner have noticed, whether a sleep study has been done and what treatment you already use. Call to arrange an assessment and ask about timing and fees. A careful conversation is more useful than a promise to stop all snoring.

Talk with us about your care

Your needs are individual. We can help you understand what applies to your teeth and what to do next.
